We now live in a world of spelling errors. There’s no escaping it. Odds are, you ran into a typo today. Hell, you may run into one in this post -BUT MAYBE NOT WITH FIREFOX 3?-.

“Lol”, “lawl”, “rofl”, wwwww, whichever. You see ’em everywhere. We all know you really aren’t laughing out loud, but it’s okay, our technologically advanced generation accepts it. We’ve accepted this so much that it’s become normalcy and almost everyday. I dont even see how “Lol” was created. The correct spelling of “Lol” is “I’m Laughing”! It’s missing the entire “I’m” part and the “aughing” part too. Hell, take it all away, and we only have “L”. Dont even get me started about “wwww” (for those not in the know, that’s those silly moonspeaking Japanese’s version of “lol”).

But this must stop. We must stop using acronyms cos because they are ruining today’s society. But not only acronyms, just generally misspellings MUST BE FIXED. LET US CREATE THIS NEW TECHNOLOGICAL GENERATION THAT SPELLZ THINGS RIGHT!

Rewind: InuYasha c.558 (the final chapter) ~ Ashita

After 558 chapters, Ms. Rumiko Takahashi’s InuYasha takes a bow, bringing this reader a mixture of elation and sadness. Elation, because it is about darn time. Sadness, because this title brought me to the world of fansubs, via the now-defunct Fangirl Friday, which led me to a rather costly diversion. Despite the ups and downs, Inuyasha, a sentimental series in my book, breathes life to an epic adventure of two core characters and their legion of supporting cast.

Hikkikomori, You Are Not

First, I should say that I’m not picking on Fang-tan or Shance for their posts, but Hikkikomori are really an entirely different breed from how you’re portraying them and how many of you know them. They just have a problem, really, and despite what you may think, it’s not anime. So before you go and call yourself a “Hikki” or a “NEET”, actually consider what you’re calling yourself. It’s like self-proclaiming yourself to be a F[at]Y[aoi]G[irl]. I know that SasukexNaruto crap’s not gonna read itself, but keep it on the DL.

Yeah, I’ve seen and read both NHK and Genshiken. I’ve seen Lucky Star. In the case of Genshiken and Lucky Star, they’re all just plain otaku. If we follow Shance’s definition of NEET:

In short, NEETs are unemployed people who leech the hell out of society and family.

Then no one in either series are NEET. Everyone works or at least trying to make a living. So if you consider yourself a Konata or any of the Genshiken crew, you are neither a NEET or a Hikki. Now in NHK, Satou is a NEET, but at one point, didn’t he too try to get a job? If we ignore that and look at how he turns out in the later part of the series, he’s a NEET. But does he fit under the category of “Hikkikomori”?

Commercials Are the Bane of My Existence

We all hate commercials -except on Super Bowl Sundays, apparently. For some reason those are just amazing for most of the country-.

The greatest thing about anime is the lack of commercials. Sure we have to sit through the part where a guy -who I swear is Kusanagi Tsuyoshi– or some woman says the name and motto of a few companies but that’s not so bad. OR IS IT? Leave it to someone to just find another fault in something that’s not so bad after all… You know the part I’m talking about. It happens right after the OP, a little after the 1:30 mark, usually. “Toyota. Drive your Dreamsu”.

Manga Weekly: School Rumble, Inuyasha, Psyren, Matsuri Special, Fullmetal Alchemist, One Piece, and Bleach

Before I start the weekly highlights, let me lament two things. First, BECK is still a no show. Why? Any raws passing around? Second, Koukou Debut will end next issue of Bessatsu Margaret. Too soon, I tell you. I love Koukou Debut; it’s fun, entertaining, and no angsty heroine to annoy me.

On a somewhat brighter note, Itazura na Kiss‘s “true ending” will be unveiled in its anime form. The last chapter of ItaKiss reveals Kotoko in her first trimester of pregnancy.

And let’s get back to what I decide to be the week’s highlights. Once again, they are testosterone filled titles. School Rumble and Inuyasha commence with their long goodbyes; Psyren and Matsuri Special say hello; Fullmetal Alchemist makes me nostalgic; and Bleach and One Piece still kick ass.

Buying Anime DVDs is Like Voting: Does It Make a Difference?

I was just reading Kurogane’s post here and I couldn’t help but think about how “lame” I really am.

No, I dont buy anime dvds anymore -I used to-. All I have is my one measly tower. Dvds used to be $30 each. Remember those days? I bought 6 episodes of FLCL for $90. I’ve seen them all so many times, I’ve at least broke even in value, but I could not justify buying anything else. I could’ve gotten a video game for $40 and used it much more. -The only dvd now I can really feel like I’ll get my money’s worth is Honey and Clover and that’s not even out despite it being licensed-.

But then Best Buy decided to change it up and make it $20 per. That’s when I went crazy. I bought a dvd every other week, pretty much. Yet after a while, I just realized that it really wasn’t worth it anymore. I was buying Eva and .hack and Azumanga Daioh. Though they were all great shows, after buying them, I’ve only seen them all once. Each dvd had about 5 episodes so I’m paying $4 per episode pretty much. $4 goes a long way now that reality smacked me around a couple times.

I’m sure you’ve all heard by now of the shit hitting the fan in Akiba by now. It is incredibly sad and it’s hit be a bit harder than I would’ve expected.

As I read at some blog -my apologies, I’ve been to so many, I dont remember which now-, but he/she brought up the point that, becuase it’s in Akiba, it really hits us harder than it would had this been at some other city in Japan or the US or anywhere, for that matter. And, well, that’s true for me, I admit. This is the stupidest thing you’ll see me type (and I’ve said/typed some stupid things. The ANO podcast for example):

I was never really struck hard by 9/11, yet I think I finally understand when put in this perspective.

For a supposed ‘anime’ blogger, I haven’t posted anything about anime yet. Tsk. Tsk. Still, Manga Weekly is here again. Shinshi Doumei Cross ends; One Piece, Bleach, and Inuyasha stay true to its genre; Hoshi wa Utau fails to glitter; and newest scans of Gokusen tickles the funny bone.

I’m expecting BECK and Skip Beat! raws to come out. But no such luck. And is School Rumble over? Was last week the final chapter? I was expecting SR continuation this weekend.

Spoilers after the jump.

bi... wait for it... gamy!

Gokusen c.109

I know it has been a while since Shueisha released the last tankoubon. But the scans are catching up. While I own the complete set, my reading comprehension in the scale of one to ten is -2. Needless to say, I rely on translations, thankyouverymuch.

And please, can someone in North America license Gokusen? How can you not love a series where a chapter’s important elements are heavy drinking, vocal prowess, and equine sensibilities? Hey, I’m easy to please.

Shinshi Doumei Cross c.47

It is the final chapter, folks. And as we predicted, Haine goes bye-bye and Takanari follows; they reincarnate as Shizumasa’s twin kids; and they live happily ever after. That is, until chibi!Haine and chibi!Takanari go the Yori and Iku route.

I kid.

Nodame Cantabile is mega-awesome

I remember when I first started watching the anime version of Nodame Cantabile and had these skyhigh expectations on the show for some reason. I hadn’t heard of the manga at the time and didn’t know anything about the characters but I had visions of a story filled with sweet romance and college life. After a few episodes my disappointment matched my previous expectations in magnitude and I was quickly losing interest in the show. Then somehow my brain managed to wrap its proverbial head around the fact that it wasn’t going to get any romance and changed gears for a more relaxed viewing and suddenly I was enjoying the show tremendously.

Yes, I realize that I am ten steps behind everyone else in the blogosphere who has already had the opportunity of blogging this series, and no, I don’t think my posts will be enlightening in the least. It’s just that I had every intention of sharing my thoughts on this episode when it first aired, but because of my inability to think during my unconscious hours at home while I was in school, I just didn’t have the energy to do anything except to doze off to sleep and vegetate in front of the screen. Mind you, I lack the eloquent writing skills of my fellow co-blogger, but I’ll try my best to compensate for my lack in just about everything with…uh, something that might satisfy. Then again, probably not. Read on, if you please…

Oh, and apologies in advance if I sound whiny in this post. I promise I’ll try to avoid it next time you find me writing here.
