Blame Anime Blogging for Facebook Addiction

I wouldn’t categorize myself as a legend of anime blogging, but I felt that I had decent traffic when I was consistently writing back in ’07. And with decent traffic, comes a decent amount of comments. And whenever I would refresh my front page and see that I had another comment, I’d get a quick shot of adrenaline. I’d get the following thoughts: “What kind of comment is it going to be? Who is it from? I hope it’s not someone trolling me. I wonder what my stats are now? How large is my e-ego right now?”

To constantly get this… rush, I would do my best to pump out a post every day of varying quality. Some pros by doing such a thing was that I grew as a writer, I was able to improve my writing, build stamina, and teach myself the tricks to bringing in traffic (protip: experience has shown me that a catchy post title does wonders). Some cons include questionable post quality, and a dishonest mentality to blogging, which I feel should be a pure expression of anime fandom. Ultimately, that selfishness lead to my downfall. I burned out and retained my huge ego -which took a while to come down.

I’m feeling natsukashii (get it?).

Does anyone have ANY information on Garten from the now defunct Memento Anime Blog? I cant even find a cache of Memento. I’ll take ANYTHING.

He is my hero, and that will never change.

An English Blog About the Situation in Japan

I doubt anyone ever comes here anymore, but this is the only place I could think of putting the link below. It’s a blog run by my Japanese friend. There’s not much to say about it. He’s a Japanese guy who really just cares. I wish I could make a difference, but I have nothing. It hasn’t even been a year since I’ve been to Japan but seeing as I’ve been so immersed in this culture, I cannot help but feel a strong connection.

I dunno, just wanted to place this link here.

So I’m supposed to be paying attention in class when my eyes wander across the large periodic table hung up on the auditorium walls and it just sticks out to me like a sore thumb. I cant believe I never noticed this:

I really should start paying more attention…

I didn’t go to NYAF, but I’ve watched about 5 minutes of the video of the anime blogging panel so far and all I gotta say is… NEEDS MOAR HUNG-HOSTING.

This doesn’t count: Clever, play on words, JPMEYER… “DAN-GO”…

LAPE LAPE LAPE! My Roommates Dont Like DMC!

You know what I say to that? LAPE LAPE LAPE SETSUGAI SETSUGAI SE YOOOOO~

Okay, enough of that. I mean, how funny is this show? It’s literally IS laugh out loud funny.

I was first very skeptic about it at first, I admit. I had the OVA just chilling on my laptop for a long while and it was only when I saw the trailer for the live action DMC movie, I immediately had the urge to go check out the OVA. Add that to the fact that this is animated by Studio 4 [Degree] C, I thought this would just be another one of those weird messed up shows that just scares the crap out of me.

Okay, so this is show IS one of those weird messed up shows that scares the crap out of me. Huh. Go figure. Yet, I cant help but enjoy this show immensely. Could it be the fast pacing, the comedic timing, and/or the overall low budget animation? Whatever it is, I’m hooked and I look forward to the next episode… or half an episode, if you consider 23 minutes a full episode. POINT IS, IT’S KICK ASS.

I Got Put in Weeaboo Moonspeak 101

Rather, it was all my /choice fault and “Weeaboo 101” is actually “Japanese 101”.

So classes started today for me and in an attempt to raise my cellar-dwelling gpa, I decided to take Japanese 101. I mean, how bad could it be? I have so many things going for me: 1) My roomate is at least a lvl 4 Japanese speaker 2) I watch so much dramas and anime, I know a bunch of random and maybe necessary phrases already 3) It’s a 101 course. If High School was any indication, at least the first stage should be chump change.

Deshou? Things are good. That is, until I get there and we actually start speaking the language. I dunno what’s wrong. I’m Asian. So if an Asian language comes out of my mouth, it SHOULD seem normal. But I guess being a closet fan of anime and doramas just makes this a little awkward for me. I straight up dislike weeaboos. Those who would see a Naruto plushie at my local bookstore and just squeel “Kawaii~”. Those who yell “Sugoi~” every chance she got at Otakon. Those people.

So when I start learning the language legit and saying the stuff, it sorta just stumbles out of my mouth awkwardly, yet it’s so crisply said in my head. We did greetings today. “Hajimemashite” and the such. IT JUST FELT SO WEIRD. I felt very hypocritical. I mean, it’ll probably go away over time seeing as I may have to take more courses to minor in East Asian Studies but for now… Yappei.

A Normal Tale About Our Next Generation’s Bleak Future

For the summer, I work with kids. Not this type of kid. No kid is ever as pure or as cute as Yotsuba, but there are some cute ones… and some devil ones. But no, I’m not going to recount a horror story with one of them -there are plenty like when a kid got hit by a golf club-. This is more tame. This particular story involved one of the “senior” students, aka 7th grade.

I had to open up this box of games and I had to pull out my set of keys to open the wrapping and on my keys is my Yuki Nagato keychain. And the conversation is as such:

Natsukashii~ ED Themes in Anime

So I’ve just recently finished Aria the Origination and the thing that disappointed me the most was the ending theme song. Not only was it NOT by Round Table feat. Nino, it was abrupt and in your face unlike The Natural’s. But the point of this post is not Origination, it is about ED themes in general.

I usually dont watch/listen to the full ED themes much, even if I really like ’em and despite the fact that they’re only 1:30 long or so. In the cases where I do like the ED song, I’d listen to them a few times, and look forward to when the single comes out so I can grab it -eg: Soul Eater’s I Wanna Be by Stance Punks-. Usually when I reach the ED theme, I just close the window and go on to the next show or whatever I’m doing.

Sometimes though, the ED can really hit you hard, but in the good way. The “My goodness. Natsukashii~. I love this song” way.

I’m sure you’ve all heard by now of the shit hitting the fan in Akiba by now. It is incredibly sad and it’s hit be a bit harder than I would’ve expected.

As I read at some blog -my apologies, I’ve been to so many, I dont remember which now-, but he/she brought up the point that, becuase it’s in Akiba, it really hits us harder than it would had this been at some other city in Japan or the US or anywhere, for that matter. And, well, that’s true for me, I admit. This is the stupidest thing you’ll see me type (and I’ve said/typed some stupid things. The ANO podcast for example):

I was never really struck hard by 9/11, yet I think I finally understand when put in this perspective.
