Otakon 2008: Ten’s Recap

Living hundreds of miles away from the East Coast, flying is my preferred mode of transportation for Otakon. Travel time, four short hours, is a non-issue to me. Alas, I was forced to succumbed to Southwest Airlines, being the cheapest game in town. And let’s just say, we did not bond. At all. If you followed my twitterings during the past few days, undisguised rage was evident. But as soon as I stepped out of the airport, annoyance was replaced with school girl glee. Fangirl mode initialized.

Since I arrived well before the otaku onslaught on Thursday before noon, I had the chance relax before meeting up with my primary con-buddy this year, the awesomely hilarious Anna.

Otakon 2008 – More Gay (Blogger)Love Here Than Geass R2

I planned to be a Danboard also but it was hastily put together so when I saw this on the street on the way to my hotel… I just gave up and threw it away. Perfectly made. Either way. Warning: A long post.

I had quite possibly one of the best weekends ever and it may be my best con experience out of 6 overall attempts (4 Otakon Trips, 2 AUSA trips). By now, you’d think I’d get bored of cons, but well, it’s places like these where it’s just okay for you wear that damned Naruto headband. It’s okay. For three days only will I accept the silly hand motions you make just to eat your cheeseburger. For three days only, I will accept you walking around and yelling “Sugoi” at every reference you may get. For three days only, up is down and and gay is straight while straight is yuri.

The thing was, I didn’t even do that many things… Otakon-y. My wonderful experience pretty much came from being able to meet so many other bloggers and spending time with two in particular. I dont even know where to start. I’ll go chronologically but so much happened this weekend I really dont think it’s all sunk in yet, really. Man, I’m really out of aniblogging shape.

For geeky things, anyway.

I’m a few hours away from Baltimore, and I’m taking an early flight out of Houston.  I’m dead tired, but it should be okay. This simply means I’ll be asleep all the way to Maryland.

For this year, I have vague plans.  All I know, I’d be hanging out with Anna, bless her kind soul for putting  up with me, and maybe meet random internet people.  As for the events, it’s a wait and see kind of thing.  Although, I’m most keen on going to Kappei Yamaguchi’s panel.  And of course, there’s Jo Chen, mostly because of her gorgeous cover arts for BtVS season 8 comic.  Plus, I have a thing for anything related to the Whedonverse.

Gearing up for Otakon ’08

Less than two weeks away, the countdown to Otakon continues. And without the pretense of hard cynics, I admit I am enthused on the upcoming event. Not only because of the con itself, but for varying reasons. (In no particular order.) One, a four-day weekend, which means, two, I don’t have to work. Three, Kappei Yamaguchi. Four, merchandise, which means, five, a manga binge. Six, no work days, emphasis on ‘s’. Seven, a chance to meet, well, other internet animu people. Eight, again, I don’t have to work. And more importantly, nine, hanging out with Anna. She’s my date for the weekend. I can’t believe I didn’t scare her away last year.

Speaking of last year, I managed to meet a handful of fellow animu bloggers (Os, Moy, and Anna) and a couple of ysp:duh! readers. And I aim for larger numbers this time around, bloggers and readers alike. If you’re interested for a meet-and-greet, a lunch/dinner/snack around the corner, or a quick hello, email me at kirsten4112(at)gmail(dot)com or fire away at the comment section.

I’ll be around from Thursday afternoon and flying out in the wee hours of Monday morn. I actually took off Monday because I ‘know’ I’d want to sleep after a fun-yet-tiring weekend. I’m not as young as I used to be.

Otakon 2008 is Already My Best Con Trip Ever

Nah, it’s not the musical guest. I dont even like JAM Project. Every year I wish for another L’Arc-esque musical guest, but every year I come up disappointed. Oh well. This year, it’s not about the anime, it’s about another type of guest. More down to earth and not so special guests. I didn’t think it could get any better after hanging out an entire day with Randall, but this might top it.

We’ve been planning this for months and it’s finally in stone. Pips and Lolikit, known for their stupid all-porn podcasts, will be making their first Otakon apperance and if you see one of us, you’ll most likely see the other two. So if you wanna say hi, and truth be told, I dont feel like setting up a get together, just leave me a message and we can plan something.

Then again, I’m sure you wont need to try hard if my plans come to fruition…

Oh, and appologies for lack of posting. Work work work. Gotta pay those uni tuitions.
