Natsukashii Anime Blog » Manga Weekly: School Rumble, Inuyasha, Psyren, Matsuri Special, Fullmetal Alchemist, One Piece, and Bleach

Before I start the weekly highlights, let me lament two things. First, BECK is still a no show. Why? Any raws passing around? Second, Koukou Debut will end next issue of Bessatsu Margaret. Too soon, I tell you. I love Koukou Debut; it’s fun, entertaining, and no angsty heroine to annoy me.

On a somewhat brighter note, Itazura na Kiss’s “true ending” will be unveiled in its anime form. The last chapter of ItaKiss reveals Kotoko in her first trimester of pregnancy.

And let’s get back to what I decide to be the week’s highlights. Once again, they are testosterone filled titles. School Rumble and Inuyasha commence with their long goodbyes; Psyren and Matsuri Special say hello; Fullmetal Alchemist makes me nostalgic; and Bleach and One Piece still kick ass.

More after the jump.

Inuyasha c.557

As much as I mock this series, Inuyasha (the anime) showed me the ‘fansub way of life’. So the manga awashes me with lingering sentimentality. Goodness. If the sources from varying aniblogs are correct, c.557 is the penultimate chapter of the epic journey/romance/adventure/bs of Kagome and Inuyasha. In this chapter, the pair reunite (as if there was an alternative), giving Kagome the extra push to ask for the ‘right’ wish. And did it came to fruition?

Ah. But of course.

The finale will reveal if the HEA will come through for the romance part of the series. Take a guess.

School Rumble c.276

Is SR truly, truly leaving us? Why, oh, why?

This chapter focuses on everyone’s favorite, Yakumo. A ghost mocks her insecurities, pushing Yakumo to emotional outburst. Gasp! An emotional Yakumo. Who would’ve thought?

What is this need by Kobayashi to stay away from stereotypical end of an almost gag manga? Are we to accept the emo pouring out of the latest chapters? Why stick with emo?

Bleach c.-98

I’ve become Bleach whore once again. Should I feel shame? Bah. No need to be an apologist about it.

Urahara and Tsukabishi’s banishment from the not!Heaven becomes clearer by the minute. In order to ’salvage’ the souls of their comrades, forbidden techniques were used: Tsukabishi and his spells; and Urahara and his Science.

If the turmoil of present day Bleach stems from way back when, why hasn’t Urahara stopped Aizen and his cohorts? How could Aizen be beyond suspicion? Surely, Kubo will present us a convincing argument, perhaps satisfying as well.

Psyren c.26

Reading Psyren reminds me of Gantz-lite, but not in a derogatory way.

At this phase, an assembly of characters line up for introductions, such as Hyoudou Kagetora’s appearance on the second to the last page of the chapter. His purpose must be to mentor the newly initiated Psi users.

So far, unanswered questions is the norm. Yet the pacing seems right on the money. The release of tension skates between comedy and thriller adventure. Gotta say, excellent use of tension and release.

One Piece c.503

I really should have something more to say than just ‘One Piece is fucking awesome‘. Then again, what can you do when a certain towering figure bursts into a fight and basically utters, “I’ve been wanting to meet you Luffy“?

Matsuri Special c.8

Anybody else reading Matsuri Special? Kindly raise your hands.  I’m pleased that Kamio Yoko’s MS is turning out to be much enjoyable than Cat Street.

Sometimes, shame and embarrassment makes people act peculiar. Kinda like Matsuri’s uncharacteristic win against her opponent. Instead of slacking off as usual, Matsuri easily deflected her opponent’s attacks in order to protect her identity and/or reputation to her, err, school crush.

Okay, that sounds boring that way I described it. It’s not. Just check it out.

Fullmetal Alchemist c.84

My favorite sin is Lust, but in Hagaren it’s Greed. Why so? Just because.

A quick recap of the FMA so far: Ed, Greed, and two other chimeras team up for perhaps some epic ass-whooping later on; Winry is a witness protection program; Scar is still emo; and poor Al is caught by the Fuhrer’s creepy ’son’. I mean, dude, the kid freaks me out.

Wow. I still miss the anime, having alloted 50+ entries on the subject. (I can’t believe I was able to blog ep1-50. Those were the days.) I know that the movie some kinda wrapped up the ‘loose ends’, but I’d rather the original storyline animated.

~~
A few things before I go. I’m itching for more BECK, the raws and the scans. Eyeshield is urging me to take a peek at the current ongoings, but I have to wait until the Christmas Bowl champ is revealed. I’ve been re-reading Shinshi Doumei Cross, but I can’t seem to work up the energy to write a review of sorts.

Man, it’d be so cool if they did animate the manga storyline xD
Even if they don’t the manga is just awesome!!
    (anime was excellent too ofcourse)

I’m assuming your talking about FMA. So yes, I have my fantasies of BONES pursuing another season of the manga storyline. Excellence shouldn’t be ignored.

  3. Comment by SasaNo Gravatar:

Amazing, how can you even re-read Shinshi Doumei Cross, but I suppose I will do the same because I already forgot about most of the storyline. Don’t force yourself, but I’d be interested in what you think about the series in retrospect. Same for Beck, btw, I still can’t wait to read the last chapter.

And wow, I didn’t even realize Matsuri Special’s existence. Time for me to go back to reading manga. Especially now that you have piqued my interest in FMA.

No word on what happened to the latest chapter of Skip Beat?

Revelations in this week’s chapter of FMA: Ed is finally taller than Winry! By a good inch! XD

@Sasa: I have too much loyalty for Arina Tanemura but SDC can be sugar overload. For some reason, I can’t work up a post.

MS is pretty new, and aside from Matsuri looking like Tsukushi, I really have no complaints so far. I just love the premise, and it’s fun.

@L-chan: Hee. Yeah, I actually had a passing thought about how Ed growing up in more than one way. XD

I’m still waiting for better translation of the latest SB. And good scans too. Heh.

  6. Comment by L-chanNo Gravatar:

OMFG, did you hear? Apparently there’s a Skip Beat anime in the works!!!!

*see Scrumptious Anime Blog for details.

ohh, I also enjoy Koukou Debut.

As for Itazura na kiss, it will never have a true ending in my opinion.

  9. Comment by usagijenNo Gravatar:

You and L-chan make me want to catch up on Skip Beat so baddd now XD Koukou Debut, hm… I lost interest in it somewhere along the way, guess it won’t hurt to pick it up again and enjoy Haruna x Yoh’s raburabu, especially now that it’s ending ^^

  10. Comment by TenNo Gravatar:

@Tim: I’ve been at peace with the manga’s abrupt ‘ending’. I like the life goes on theme for ItaKiss.

@usagijen: Ooh. You need to catch up with SB. It’s in the middle of Kyoko’s second dorama series. Looks like we have a semi-villain in the midst.

Greetings! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this site?

I’m getting tired of Wordpress because I’ve had problems with hackers and
I’m looking at alternatives for another platform. I would be awesome if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
