Natsukashii Anime Blog » Yotsuba&! - I want whatever she’s having

I can’t believe I’ve avoided this manga for as long as I have. When I first saw the main character as a header on Hung’s blog I instantly realized I wanted more. That one picture was somehow just overflowing with energy and life and stuck with me. As I didn’t recognize it from any anime I thought it was just some art someone made and a bit disappointed I put it in the back of my mind.

Even when I stumbled upon a review of the manga and found out about its name I didn’t act on it and once again I sort of forgot about it. Until today, and this time I can’t even remember what triggered my memories of it even though it’s only been a day since I was reminded! That’s how awesome this manga is; it completely blew my mind away. All the energy and good feelings I got when I first saw that picture of Yotsuba is all there in the manga! I’m just sitting there with a big stupid grin on my face the entire time I’m reading it.

It’s drawn by the same guy that did Azumanga Daioh and you can instantly tell from his character designs and facial expressions. I mean this guy has perfected the shocked look on his characters as this picture so awesomely shows. Aside from the art the pacing and jokes are also very similiar to Azumanga.

Yotsuba herself is this crazy kid who simply have no clue about anything and maybe this is why she’s able to only see the good things in the world. She’s running around like she’s constantly high and just generally seems to have an awesome life which makes me long for the days when I had no responsibilities. Any setbacks she experiences only lasts as long as her next sight, which usually is in the span of a few seconds.

I’m only about a volume and a half into this manga but even after the first chapter I felt this enormous need to rave about how good it is. I mean most media requires a varmup period before I can get anywhere near as excited as I am now, which is just a further testament to its greatness. Now if you’ll excuse be I need to go back to getting high on life, by proxy.

Sweet. I just ordered a Yotsuba action figure (but it’s not out until August or something) so I should really update my banner back to one with Yotsuba. You’re right, that kid is pretty much high all the time. On life!

Yotsuba&! is the perfect example of a good comedy without any fanservice. I enjoyed every volume. :)

Hung - I got to admit, a Yotsuba figure would be pretty awesome. :)

Skywalker - Yeah it’s pretty refreshing!

You should see the dojin variant of that cover…ho-hum.

I’m not sure I want to. I have a feeling it might ruin the Yotsuba experience for me. :P

The thing is, she seems to be acting like a relatively “normal” 4 year old, although she’s a little too hyperactive. Given that I have a younger brother who acts the same way, Azuma did a great job capturing the world through a child’s eyes - that and through the eyes of people who interact with the child. :P

This series instantly became one of my favorites when I stumbled upon scanlations of it accidentally ages back. You know, way back when. So when it got published over here, I buy them the instant I see ‘em in the bookstore. Good re-reads, too.

Oh, and kids, let me tell you after working with ‘em day in and day out… are NOT as pure and awesome as Yotsuba.

The series is awesome; I’ve read up to the latest chapters and it never gets old.

TheBigN - Actually yeah the more think about it I think you’re right.

Os - Well yeah, ok they might not be as pure as Yotsuba is. I actually think kids are kinda evil. :P But atleast most of them have that sparkle in their eye when they see something they like.

Karura - It really is a great manga to read when you want to be put in a great mood I think. :)

Next time a blog is read by me, I trust that it doesnt disappoint me up to this one. I imply, I know it was my option to read, but I actually believed youd have something fascinating to state. All I notice is really a lot of crying about something which you could fix if you werent also busy trying to find consideration.

The next time I read a blog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as a lot as this one. I imply, I do know it was my choice to learn, however I really thought youd have something interesting to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you could possibly fix when you werent too busy on the lookout for attention.
