Honey and Clover is my favorite series ever. Period. There’s no tie for #1, it’s THE best. So when I heard that there was a Honey and Clover movie, I was psyched out of my mind.

Unfortunately, the movie left me wanting for more. Mind you, I still bought the dvd just so I can have as much Hachikuro stuff as I can, but it’s definitely not one of my best purchases. You just cant squeeze all the development into 2 hours. The intricate love triangle of Takemoto, Hagu and Morita alone can make it a 3 hour movie. Then add in Mayama and Yamada’s thing… I was too hyped up. Plus, Sakura Sho, I love the guy, but he’s not a good Takemoto. (Aoi Yuu was the bomb, though).

Then came the Japanese drama. This time, I was more prepared to be let down. Not surprising, it could not provide me with the same rush and anxiety that I felt as I watched the anime series but it was looking better. But then again, they did change a whole lot about the story. Essentially I was given someone else’s rendition of Honey and Clover, not Honey and Clover. But I am glad though. In the end, it was able to let me feel a little bit of that connection that I felt with the anime (Cant speak for the manga, I only have volume 1).

In one week, the Taiwanese will give their shot at Honey and Clover. Now when I watch dramas, I usually stick to Japanese and Korean. I have never completed an entire Taiwanese drama. I’ve seen one (of a show whose name I do not remember cos it was so bad) and I stopped after the first episode. BUT. BUT, I have hope. I got my hands on a copy of the OST and at least that’s good. As I listen to some of the instrumentals, I can already picture some scenes awesome scenes. Hopefully they’ll have one of my favorites scenes: Yamada crying on Mayama’s back repeating “I love you”.

The vocalized songs… well, they seem very lame, but I’ll ignore those. I eagerly anticipate the new drama, not with high hopes, but with at least some hope. As long as Jay Chou is not acting in this, I wont totally dismiss it. HE IS THE WORST ACTOR ON EARTH. You want proof? Watch Initial D and/or Kung Fu Dunk -based off the Slam Dunk manga-. Though I wont know why you’d want to watch both. You’d kill yourself before it was over.

In the end, so far, the closest I’ve ever felt to feeling the same amazing feeling I can only get when watching the Honey and Clover anime is reading the Honey and clover reviews by Garten.

The OST cover. Hagu BETTER NOT be a whore. *shakes fist*

HONEY AND CLOVER IS THE BEST SERIES EVER OH YES

    /fanboy mode off

Yes. It is the best series ever, and I’m going to be watching ALL of it . . . after these summer classes.

Holy frak! Joe Cheng is in the cast, but why Mayama? That’ll be all sorts of emo. I think he’ll fit with Morita since he has good comedic sense.

I wouldn’t say Honey and Clover is my FAVOURITE series ever but it is definitely up there.

Taiwanese dramas however, are the shittiest dramas of them all to be honest, especially if it’s an idol drama we’re talking about. Still I’ll probably be watching every single episode :D.

I’ve always thought that a Korean Honey and Clover drama would work out though.

The Honey and Clover movie was perfectly watchable as long as you mentally rename it ‘Japanese Art Students In Love” and don’t think about what it’s meant to be. It had some good parts, but at one phase I was bouncing up and down on the sofa yelling “No! No! They NEVER go to the ocean! That’s WRONG!!!”

    ROOKIES IS THE BEST!

@Shay - ha ha, that’s a problem if you can get hooked from seeing “Jay Chou”. My friend, I need to fix that.
@Michael - I’ll be (re)watching all of it this summer… if time permits.
@Ten - I have no idea who Joe Cheng is but I was afraid for a second because I thought you said “Jay Chou”
@mooray - I would wet myself if there was a Korean Hachikuro. I love Koreans. Not just their dramas and shows, but Koreans. Period.
@Dop - “Japanese Art Students In Love” is much much more fitting.
@blissmo - YOU WANT ROOKIES? I’LL WRITE ABOUT ROOKIES.

Joe Cheng is one of those model/actor type who can somehow act. I’ve watched my share of TW drama to be familiar with some of “idols”. As for Jay Chou, I like him singing but not so much for the acting.

Slightly OT. I can’t wait to see your thoughts once the Korean remake of HanaDan comes up.

Agreed, I love the Japanese and all but secretly I favour the Koreans, a Korean version of anything would work actually.

Also can’t wait for the Korean HanaDan.
